Nic’s Last Football Game

Nic Burrell in MWSC vs. NWMSU

Northwest Missouri State spotted Missouri Western a 16-0 lead but battled back to win Saturday’s NCAA Division II playoff tilt in St. Joseph. The Bearcats outscored the Griffons, 27-7, in the second half to advance to the region semifinals against #2 Midwestern State, out of the Lone Star Conference.

Gallatin grad Nic Burrell played every snap on defense for the Griffons and registered eight tackles, including one for loss. The MWSU senior linebacker also spent a busy afternoon dropping into pass coverage against the Bearcats’ best receiver, #4 Tyler Shaw.

For every tackle #36 had this year you could hear some where in the audience, “YEAH NIC!!!”,  from his very proud momma.

We were blessed this year to get to go to every game, away and home.

Here are a few pictures of some of his fans.

His girlfriend, Megan.

His sister, Kayli.  That’s Big Ran in the back ground.

His nephew, Hudson.

His Grandma and Grandpa Burrell

His sister, Kamille and Megan

The Griffon and his sister, Madison

His sign holding niece, Kennedy

There were many other fans there, too.  Tom, Alan, Brice, Bill, Steve, Bobby, Bob, Jimmy, Mitch, Bradley, Stephanie, Aaron, Justin, Gracyn, Dianna, Mike, Kelly, Michael, Tony, Nana, Bailey, Marty, and Marcus just to name a few.

I’m pretty sure Coach Partridge is telling Nic what a great job he just did!!!

It was a great ride!!

Happy Thanksgiving

Today I am cooking for the Thanksgiving dinner that I have at my house on Saturday.

So far the cranberry sauce is cooling and I am starting on the cornbread dressing.

I found a couple of pictures of Thanksgiving past to share with you.

This is from left to right, Kamille, my brother Kevin’s friend,  Kevin, Dad, and Kayli.

The kiddy table.

From left to right – Madison, Nic, and Mom.

This was the Thanksgiving that Big Ran was in Afghanistan.  We are still very thankful that he is back with us today.

Well, back to work!

We all miss you Dad.

Let’s Catch Up Again!!

So, we lost our football game in the playoffs.  I have some more great pictures of Nic, and of some of the great family and friends, that went to some of the games to help support him, to show you hopefully tomorrow.

I have been planning my Thanksgiving meal, still.   Besides having the turkey, dressing, gravy, and mashed potatoes, here is a list of the rest of the goodies I am planning on making.

This is a cheese ball that I am going to attempt this year.

I just can’t resist!!  I have to try!

I always make cranberry sauce, although I think mom and I are the only ones who eat it.  But it’s easy and cheap!

I usually make a layered jello salad to go in my clear glass bowl, but this year I am going to make a banana pudding trifle.

Madison wants me to make plain salad.  This means lettuce and cucumbers with some croutons.  So I think I will try this salad and let her pick off what she doesn’t want.

Green bean casserole is always a Thanksgiving must!

We are also going to have plain corn.

I wonder who ordered that up?

Go Griffons!!

The Missouri Western Griffons are in the playoffs!

Not only are they in the playoffs, they are hosting a playoff game for the 1st time ever!!!

Setting the scene:
The Griffons will look to extend their winning streak to eight in a row this weekend when they take on the 10th ranked Northwest Missouri State Bearcats in St. Joseph, Mo. in the first round of the Division II national playoffs.  Western is has not won eight games in a row in the history of the program. This will be the fourth meeting between the two teams in the past two season. This marks the second straight season that the two teams have met in the first round of the playoffs. Western lost last years contest 28-24 last season in Maryville, Mo.  Both teams have been ranked in the top-25 in three of the last four meetings and are both ranked in the top 25 for the second time this season when meeting.  Western snapped an eight game losing streak against the Bearcats in the last meeting.  This marks the highest seed the Griffons have been ever in the playoffs as they were 6th in 2006 and 6th last season. The Griffons come into the contest with a 9-2 overall record and 7-2 in MIAA play.  Western has won a single season high nine games for the sixth time in school history as they have done it in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009. Western is 5-1 at home this season winning their last five home game after falling in the season opener against Pittsburg State.  The Bearcats are 9-2 overall which includes 4-1 on the road. The Bearcats hold a 21-11 lead in the series which includes winning last seasons playoff game 28-24 in Maryville, Mo. last season by a score of November 20, 2010. This will mark the second meeting between the coach Partridge and Adam Dorrel in the past three weeks.
