Big Ran came running in the house, grinning from ear to ear, “Look what I found!” he yelled.
He had 4 mushrooms in his hands cuddling them like they were gold.
He was so excited!!
He had been weed eating the fence line and found them.
He was upset that he had chopped one of them in half.
Now to understand how excited he was you have to hear this story.
He loves mushrooms!!
He loves them so much that he sent off for a mushroom kit to grow your own mushrooms a few years ago.
Big Ran is frugal.
He does not throw money at any mail order kits EVER!!
He tilled, planted and watered this little spot were he put the mushroom spores.
Nothing came of this.
A very diasppointed Big Ran.
Anyway, he went back out to look for more for about 30 minutes and we ended up with about 15 or 16 mushrooms all together.
So, guess what’s for supper.
I washed, sliced in half and soaked them.
Then I put some flour, salt and pepper in a plastic bag and put the mushrooms in the bag to cover them with the flour mixture.
I added about 6 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a cast iron pan.
Then added the mushrooms.
Just cook them until they are brown and crispy on both sides.
Drain on paper towels.
To go along with the mushrooms I made some fried potatoes with onions.
Madison’s and Big Ran’s favorite side dish.
I also put some olive oil in a skillet and fried some asparagus.
Just olive oil, salt and pepper.
Lots of greasy food!!
Hey at least I have got some green in there!
Mushrooms aren’t around very long so we have to take advantage of the “season”.
Only once or twice a year.
